Plus Size Models Changing the Face of the Industry

It is a shame that far too often beauty is associated with being thin. It is this mentality that has warped so many women's ideas of what they truly should look like. Would Marilyn Monroe ever have been accused of not exuding sex appeal? By today's standards she would be considered a plus size woman. What about other famous plus size models? Think of some of the most beautiful women in the world, and you will see that size does not limit a woman's beauty.

The women that plus size lingerie, plus size tops, plus size sexy bras and plus size maternity wear is aimed at do not look like the models in the ads. How could a creature who weighs little more than a hundred and five pounds ever have the same body shape as a plus size woman weighing over one hundred and fifty pounds? The answer is that they do not have the same shape. It is ridiculous to have thin women wearing fashions supposedly marketed for the plus size women clothing niche. Something had to change and gladly it did.

It is a sad fact that many young women who suffer so badly from poor body image starve themselves. They endanger their health over a few pounds. But there are new faces in the modeling industry to show these young women that a healthy body and body image is not limited to those with rail thin figures. Emme, Natalie Laughlin, Barbara Brickner and Kate Dillon are some of the most famous plus size models to grace the world's magazines, catwalks, television sets and fashion shows. Their message is one that needs to be told and it also helping to get more plus size dresses, lingerie plus sizes, and sexy womens lingerie for the curvy gals into mainstream stores.

Men don't face the same stereotypes that women have when it came to size and shape. They can be called "big and tall" and not seem like a monster in a dress. Double standards will forever be a fact of life but at least in fashion there is now hope. Plus size models cannot change the world themselves but they have made a start. It is now up to each plus size consumer, her family and her friends to celebrate the fact that women come in different shapes and sizes. Beauty is more than skin deep. It is within and is not marked by the size of the container. The world is beginning to notice this and great changes are occurring.
